"It runs through high grass over the crest of hill. The sea appears. The meadow ends in a sharp drop. A cliff, extending fifty meters down to the sea. The being runs straight towards the cliff's edge without slowing down. It runs blindly into the void. Its arms flail as it falls. Instinctively it emits a stifled cry. The air begins to whistle due to the speed of the fall. With a deadly impact the being smashes onto a rock. A wave breaks over the rock and washes the body into the sea.”
Shooting that last part of the scene turned out to be way tougher than expected! We wanted to capture it in one shot, with a moving camera following the character running, falling, and being washed into the sea. Although we planned to use VFX, we wanted to shoot as much as possible for real. Our team, including the DoP and VFX supervisor, scouted a cliff in the Philippines, hoping for a manageable height. We found Graciano's Cove, which looked visually stunning, but it was more challenging than we thought. The cliff was sharp and dangerous, reaching a height of 15-20 meters instead of our initial 5-meter plan. We had to build scaffolding and a platform at around 10 meters for safety. The ocean waves were fierce, crashing against the cliff with massive spray. After discussing with our co-producers and the stunt coordinator, we concluded that while it would be challenging, it could still be done. 📷🌊
