XMTP wtf?

XMTP is the protocol that powers Lens DMs.

It's an open network that any builder can use to provide a web3 chat experience to their users.

1/ Interoperability

Start a conversation on @lenster.lens or @buttrfly.lens and continue it on @converseapp.lens

Interoperability is not only magical (really, try it!), it's also incredibly helpful for users.

Thousands of apps will be able to integrate chat experiences that matter.

Social platforms (hey @lensprotocol 👋), games, NFT marketplaces, dating apps, e-commerce websites - every service that generates social interactions will initiate conversations.

Thousands of apps?? But I can't open thousands of apps every day!

That's the best part - there will be super-apps that will gather all of your messages in one place. No more need to switch between applications and no more missed messages.

That's the best property of XMTP: you can start conversations everywhere but you can also find them all in one place. 💥

2/ Decentralization

@xmtplabs.lens will progressively decentralize the protocol. Bye bye censorship, you won't be missed.

It also means that XMTP clients are unstoppable. Web2 networks can kill your app overnight if you use their APIs. XMTP clients can create value, compete with each other and innovate without fearing being stopped.

This competition is very healthy for users: monopolies can set the floor and capture way too much value while competitive ecosystem re-distribute the value in a much fairer way.

3/ Wallet login

For now, the only way to connect to the network is via an EVM wallet. This enables wallet-to-wallet communication and it's very cool.

What's even cooler? On-chain information! Our on-chain identities are getting richer and richer. Financial transactions, social interactions, artists that you support, DAOs you're part of ... all of this is becoming publicly available.

This information is gold!

Clients could help you connect with people with common interests, people who you shared experiences with or even people that would just be a good match for a chill conversation.
