*pertinent information: the figure touches the downed line, causing an eruption of arcing electricity. Me and Mason are stunned into silence. \n\npertinent information: the figure is illuminated. It looks small and slender, and its skin reflects the light like polished chrome. It’s blinding to look at. *\n\n[Analise] — …Sir…?\n\n[Analise] — Why isn’t he moving?

The world has become more interconnected than ever, and yet, paradoxically, more isolated. How strange, right? But this paradox has led to more than just isolation; it has profoundly transformed human relationships. What were once organic, genuine connections have often devolved into transactional exchanges, mirroring the efficiency-driven, profit-oriented mindset of our digital age
Human interaction has become commodified. People are increasingly viewed through the lens of their utility—what they can offer in terms of social status, career advancement, or personal gain, whether tangible or not. This approach to relationships has eroded the very fabric of connection, replacing empathy and genuine interest with a cold calculus of potential benefits
This mindset affects both personal and professional spheres. In the workplace, networking often takes precedence over true collaboration. In personal lives, social media “connections” create the illusion of intimacy while fostering superficial interactions
While this is a universal issue that touches all genders, ages, and social groups, from what I’ve observed and heard, it disproportionately affects women, who often face objectification and reductionist attitudes in various aspects of life
In my eyes, the real challenge isn't just the issue itself, but recognizing and resisting it. We need to look beyond the “barcode” of a person's perceived value and engage with the full spectrum of their humanity. We need to consciously cultivate genuine interest in others, listen without agenda, and value connections for their inherent worth rather than potential gains
Overcoming this challenge is not just about moving away from a transactional mindset and returning to a more relational one that can enrich our individual lives, but also about fostering a society built on empathy, mutual understanding, and genuine interpersonal bonds
“L'âme codée” is my visual commentary on the commodification of human relationships in modern society
