How do we future-proof social media networks? How do we minimize any single point of failure?
Or as @stani put it, how should we be building resilient social networks? <app.t2.world/article/cm09gqvx348089121mcxttm30hl>
Every click, like, and search on web2 social becomes part of our social profile where our behaviors and preferences are stored as data that is sold to advertisers. As we've learned, our data is used to manipulate us into buying things and even influence our ideas and politics.
Web2 platforms are opaque, centralized, and controlled by large companies, who make all the decisions, including censoring users. Users have no rights. This centralized control makes them non-resilient.
Blockchains offer the best way to achieve resiliency, offering accountability, transparency, and protection from centralized control.
In contrast to other models, Lens is built onchain, which means it is highly resilient. For example, if an app on Lens becomes unaccessible, you'd still own your profile. When you chose your username on Lens, it is minted onchain, and is yours, forever.
What about all your publication data? Lens publications can point to any content hosting provider. Publications are verified onchain, providing a resilient mechanism for the Lens community to re-construct the canonical social graph if a service is down or compromised.
Using a flexible blockchain-based network also means apps and users have more control in moderation decisions. In the next iteration of Lens, apps can choose the parameters regarding who can join a community, moderate content, or decide how funds are distributed in the app.
Finally, Lens is fully open source. If Lens developers are targeted, the source code can still be accessed, as needed. With open source software and onchain contracts -- transparency -- is inherently resilient.
People really do be complaining about airdrops when the APYs are still over 50% for most w minimal risk tho unless you would’ve given seed then you should not complain. Tbh I wouldn’t have given seed to half my farms esp not the ones now. TBD what happens w the meta but rn I’m allocating the majority or resources to Infinex until September ;)
