After teaching Urbánika's course on PostCapitalism and Blockchain to various individuals and collectives, we've collected valuable feedback.
This has helped us refine our focus to areas where we can make the most regenerative impact: Neighborhoods. 🏘️🌳🐕👨🏾👩🏻👧🏼👦🏾
This aligns perfectly with the exciting news that, thank to the support from y'all via @gitcoin #BetaRound, we've raised over $18K.
These funds will buy a bus that we will convert into the world's first mobile postcapitalist web3 school.
🚨Get ready for a MEGA thread where we'll share our journey of building the traveling school and the new course!
Anticipate a months-long thread filled with emotions, challenges, and triumphs. Buckle up and join us on this exciting voyage!
Our dream: train 800 neighbors in using @gnosisSafe, @Giveth, & @gitcoin for treasury & fundraising, @CharmVerse for governance & @GravityDAO for conflict resolution, all in the sphere of neighborhood collaboration.
Where? 80 neighborhoods across 40 cities in 20 🌎countries.

From this point on, we are going to post about our progress on each Phase and Milestone.
So stay tuned!
Urbánika is in the top 20 of @gitcoin.lens' Climate Solutions.
We are 7 people short to reach the top 10. Why does this matter?
If we reach the top 10 we might get enough matching funds to reach our goal:
Equip 300 changemakers from 40 cities and 20 LATAM countries.
How? Delivering the first traveling school about PostCapitalism, Blockchain, and AI in the world!!
Imagine the following:
A school bus arriving to your neighborhood's park...
During the week, workshops are facilitated about crafting seedbombs, opening and managing DAOs, opening a Gitcoin passport, and the importance of @lensprotocol vs proprietary social media, and so on.
During the weekend, meetups are organized with music and neighborhood management topics, discussing about the street's issues and the ideal neighborhood they would love to live in.
During the nights, a movie is projected about provocative topics such as land grabbing, natural capital theft, and many others. After the movie, a discussion session goes on and ends with commitments to take action regarding the topic discussed.
We are addressing the metacrises by equipping changemakers with the knowledge and tools to build the futures they want to live in.
Pls read our cause, if it resonates with you drop us null in ETH, that's enough to help making this traveling school a reality.
Unpopular opinion: Post-Capitalist education has more positive impact on climate than carbon offsetting. The meta-crisis is ontological.
Let's start with the root of the problem: Did you know that economic growth leads us, one way or another, to higher energy demand? This means that for a country's economy to maintain its growth, it needs to increase its energy consumption.
What's the problem, we just need an energy transition to renewables, right?
Wrong. Although renewables are the future. In the face of unlimited growth, there is no energy that is enough. Here are 4 limitations:
Constraint 1: Even the largest renewable energy source is not enough.
🌞Solar energy is the resource with the greatest potential, some authors say that the Sun sends us 8 thousand times the human energy consumption. But these authors are leaving aside all physical, chemical and natural understanding...
Other authors include chemical, physical and natural factors in their calculation and consider that... the maximum uptake potential would only cover 40% of our current consumption.
Limitation 2: Replacing the CURRENT fossil infrastructure with a renewable energy infrastructure requires the use of materials that are not sufficiently available.
🗒️Recent studies show that even adding the probability of finding new deposits of each material, the Earth's composition does not have enough lithium, nickel, cobalt, manganese, tellurium, copper, and platinum, among 7 other essential elements.
This is without contemplating the ecological devastation of exploiting all these materials....
But, even in the hypothetical scenario that the availability of materials exists to meet our current demand, it would take decades to extract them due to the peak extraction effect. And by that time, we will need even more....
The higher the growth, the higher the demand, remember? Are you starting to see the point? Total substitution to meet current demand is not possible, and future demand? certainly not!
Constraint 3: Renewable energy production of any kind - photovoltaic cells, wind turbines, and even hydroelectric power plants - depends on fossil energy consumption.
🏗️From the extraction of the necessary material, through the manufacture of parts, transportation, to the commissioning and maintenance of the generators, fossil fuels are used.
This one will surprise you! Constraint 4: Electricity consumption has been declining since 2008. Why? One of many factors is that replacing current machines with electric models requires materials whose reserves...don't exist!
In short, it must be understood that unlimited economic growth and carbon offsetting are not enough.
💯Yes, the planet needs an energy transition, but real change is not only achieved with technology, but with better lifestyles and a re-understanding of our relationship with nature.
What now?
It's your turn. Change starts with you and your community. Understanding and adopting a post-Capitalist vision is much more beneficial to the planet than offsetting your current consumption.

Are you looking to make a bulk payment through a multisig?
We just went through the distribution of funds from @gitcoin.lens, and as we are in a bundle, we received funds into a multisig. So how did we distribute all funds into each member paying for a single transaction instead of many??
Step 1: Turn the amount you are going to distribute to each address into UINT256. How? 👇🏽
In a Calculator Sheets -as Libre Calc, Google Sheets, or whatever other provider you have, input the following formula:
=L4*10^18
Replace L4 with the field you want to calculate
In our case, we have in L4 the DAI amount to distribute to Urbánika, and L5 to another project, and so on. So we just took the above formula down to quickly calculate the UINT256 of each project.
Step 2: Have the addresses at hand! If they are signers, you'll find them in the Address Book section within the left panel of your multisig wallet (at least in Gnosis' SAFE one).
Open a new window of the SAFE and select the APPS section. Then look for Transaction Builder.
Step 3: Read this tutorial for details on how to use this dApp help.safe.global/en/articles/4680071-transaction-builder
Step 4: Ask your signing peers and enjoy the distribution of funds! 🙂
Retroactive funding means a lot to us.

Are you tired of relying on external authorities to make decisions that affect your community?
Do you believe in the power of self-governance and decentralized societies? If so, you won't want to miss this post on peer governance. 👇🏽🌱🧠
Whether you're a web3 governance nerd or a changemaker at heart, this post is for you.
What is Peer Governance?
It's a concept that's gaining momentum in today's world, and it's worth exploring. David Bollier, an activist, author, and blogger specialized on postCapitalism and the commons, defines peer governance as "the capacity of a community to govern itself through the participation of its members." In other words, it's a way for people to come together and make decisions that affect their community.
Why is it important?
Well, for starters, it empowers people to take control of their own lives. It allows communities to create their own rules and regulations, rather than relying on external authorities. This can lead to greater autonomy and self-sufficiency, as well as a stronger sense of community.
We, the people, have lost the knowledge to self-manage, we delegate the faith of our lives and planet to a few. @hbesso31.lens reflected some months ago, that allowing an external body to create and enforce rules for a community without enabling effective direct participation is a form of slavery.
Web3 builds for distributed societies.
Peer governance is about understanding we have the capacity to self-manage, that we have the tools to do so, and every time more ways of achieving this happens. The obstacle is not technological but in acknowledging and learning how to become a commoner.
An example
One real-life example of a community applying peer governance is the open-source software movement.
This is a community of developers who create software that is freely available to anyone who wants to use it. Instead of relying on a single company or entity to control the software, the community as a whole is responsible for its development and maintenance. This allows for greater innovation and collaboration, as well as a more democratic approach to software development.
When open software has a governance based on peers, i.e., on a community of stewards, then is no longer a public good, but a commons!
Check our previous posts to learn the difference 😉
How can I start using peer governance?
The first step is to educate yourself on the concept and its potential benefits. From there, look for opportunities to get involved in your own community.
This could mean testing consent instead of consensus in a local meeting within your DAO, co-op, or on the next event that you attend AND you can facilitate this as a test, with trusted partners that enable you and everyone to learn by doing.
Learn, from this 1-min video of a conversation with an alien, what is peer-governance:
A peer-based society will only happen if we get out of our comfort zone within this neoFeudalism we live in and give our time to try and support decentralized and distributed protocols, interfaces, methodologies.
I just signed the Glass Manifesto and got early access to claim The Glass Pass. See you on @glassxyz.lens :
Let's make it happen!
Welcome back to our journey into the #Commonsverse! Today we will go through the rest of the categories mapped by David Bollier in The Commoner’s Catalog for Changemaking.
If you missed the other two parts, here you can find them:
Part 1: lenster.xyz/posts/0x019ce8-0x02
Part 2: lenster.xyz/posts/0x019ce8-0x10
What the heck is the Commonsverse? 🤔
It is a huge network of shared initiatives that work together to meet people's needs through mutual aid and peer governance.
🐾 Life itself as a Commons. Movements and thinking that recognizes the rich “symphony of relationships” and interdependencies—which is the very point of commoning. Follow: David Sloan Wilson and Michael Tomassello
🥰 Care Work. While markets offer "human care" for a price, a genuine care can only be brough through authentic affection, trust, and reciprocal commitment. Commoning is about genuinely caring about the Commons. Look for: the Buurtzorg model
💰 Alternative currencies. These help communities capture and recirculate value created within their space, while preventing the outside economy from taking it away. Some research says that community currencies help retain and increase value within these communities up to 8x more than national currencies. Follow: Circles UBI
⏰ Timebanking. A service-barter system for people to exchange an hour of services given for an hour of services needed. It helps meet needs and build social connections. Look for: a local one!
📚 Open access scholarly journals. More than 16,000 academic and scientific journals equalize access to knowledge by makeing research free to read, copy, and share in perpetuity. Loof for: plos.org/ and doaj.org/
📜 Licenses for Sharing Knowledge. Creative Commons and others have spawned vast repositories of legally shareable content, fighting the criminalization of sharing. For example: Urbánika's license is under creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/
🤝🏽 Peer Production. The rise of the Internet has shown the power of networked collaboration, aka as peer production. Look for: a local FabLab or Makerspace in your city. Wanna inspiration? Look how a house can be peer-produced cosmolocally: www.wikihouse.cc/
🛠 Platform cooperatives. Commoners are devising peer-owned “platform cooperatives" to empower users while thwarting online monopolies and data surveillance. Enter: platform.coop/
These are just a few examples of the countless individual initiatives in the Commonsverse, each committed in its own fashion to meeting needs through mutual aid and peer governance.
