Polygon's mainnet upgrade is scheduled for September 4, moving its native token from $MATIC to $POL following community approval. After the upgrade, $POL will replace $MATIC as the main token for gas fees and in-network staking in the initial phase. POL is expected to maintain MATIC's existing token system, distribution, and total supply.
For existing $MATIC holders on the Polygon PoS network, the transition to $POL will happen automatically without user intervention. The current $MATIC price is 0.54 USD. Current FDV is 5.41 billion USD.
