Google, like Facebook, thinks itself more important than the state and above it. 😡 all because they abuse their dominant position by not wanting to share their advertising revenue with the media whose content they use.

With bill C18, the Canadian government wanted to force Google and Meta to share part of the advertising revenue they received from using Canadian media content.

Media and content creators have the right to profit from their work, all the money does not have to go into the only pockets of the GAFA.

Long live to @lensprotocol and decentralized networks. All that remains to do is to democratize them and make them easily accessible to all.

Bill C-18 has become law and remains unworkable. The Government has not given us reason to believe that the regulatory process will be able to resolve structural issues with the legislation. As a result, we have informed the Government that we have made the difficult decision that when the law takes effect we will be removing links to Canadian news from our Search, News, and Discover products and will no longer be able to operate Google News Showcase in Canada.
