gm friends! Happy Earth Day 🌍
Today I’m dreaming of one of my favourite places in nature - the Algonquin Highlands in Ontario, Canada. I asked AI to generate a scene from this location, with reference to artwork from the Group of Seven.
Several artists in the Group of Seven would often travel through the Algonquin Highlands to find subjects to paint. You can see it appear prominently in the work of Tom Thompson and Lawren Harris. It’s actually quite fascinating to ride a canoe down the rivers in Algonquin, as it feels like you are suddenly inside one of their paintings! 🖼️🎨
Can’t wait to visit this place again in the summer.

Bootleg Sugar Lips
This string quartet was commissioned by choreographer Kathleen Dyer. In the beginning of our collaboration, and before I composed a note, Kathleen set new choreography to John Adams' string septet Shaker Loops. My task was to create new music with a similar energy.
Jokingly, I entitled the first sketches Bootleg Shaker Loops. Through a misunderstanding by the dancers, the name morphed into Bootleg Sugar Lips and the absurdity of it was catchy enough for a permanent title!
