The discovery comes after an almost 12-day manhunt, in which more than a dozen local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies scoured thousands of acres of rugged and densely wooded terrain in the Daniel Boone National Forest — where authorities believed Couch was hiding.
"We're very confident that this brings the closure in the search of Joseph Couch," Burnett said.
On Tuesday, officials announced that search efforts in the forest would be scaled back](https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2024/09/17/kentucky-highway-shooting-suspect-update/75269363007/)) and resources would be reallocated toward surrounding communities. Since the shooting, police received more than 400 tips with a majority of the tips pointing to outside of the forest.
What was left behind was a hollowed-out gash of earth resembling a sandy moonscape littered with debris – planks of wood from docks, twisted hoists, overturned boats. It was almost as if a plug had been yanked from a bathtub drain.
In the Great Lakes State, access to water marks a dividing line between the haves and the have-nots.
Michigan boasts nearly 3,300 linear miles](https://www.michigan.gov/egle/about/organization/water-resources/coastal-management/michigans-resilient-coast)) of freshwater coastline – more than any other state in the U.S. No matter where you are in this state, you’re never more than six miles from a source of fresh water – whether it’s a lake or a stream, canal or a pond – and never more than 85 miles from a Great Lake.
Enforcement of the ban would roll out over the coming days, it said. In addition to Facebook, Meta's apps include Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads.
The Russian embassy did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. The White House declined to comment.
Meta's move came after the United States filed money-laundering charges earlier this month against two RT employees for what officials said was a scheme to hire an American company to produce online content to influence the 2024 election.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Friday that countries should treat the activities of Russian state broadcaster RT as they do covert intelligence operations. RT has mocked the U.S. actions and accused the United States of trying to prevent the broadcaster from operating as a journalistic organization.

Eight years ago, in September 2016, I was on the editorial board of The Detroit News. During our endorsements that presidential election year, we made a decision that surprised a lot of our readers – and others around the country.
For the first time in the newspaper’s storied history, we chose not to endorse the Republican candidate.
As we wrote then: “The 2016 nominee offered by the Republican Party rubs hard against the editorial board’s values as conservatives and Americans. Donald Trump is unprincipled, unstable and quite possibly dangerous. He can not be president.”

Smith is one of dozens of people across the country who are running longshot campaigns for local and state office in an effort to oust Republican elected officials who baselessly question the outcome of the 2020 presidential election, or who have interfered with certifying subsequent elections.

One passenger told law enforcement they noticed that Salva seemed "claustrophobic" and "like he wanted to get off the plane."
Shortly after takeoff, flight attendants noticed the oxygen masks in one row in the middle of the aircraft were out of the overhead compartment and discovered that Salva had pulled down the masks and got his hand stuck in the process, the release said.
