Robinson Burkey, co-founder of the Wormhole Foundation, posted on X to share some of the progress that has been made since the W airdrop went live nearly 3 months ago, mentioning the success of over 5 months of anti-witching efforts through Allium.
After combing through addresses to prevent witch attacks, 400,000 wallets from 26 different ecosystems were eligible for airdrops, and since Wormhole has been running for more than 3 years, there was a lot of data to process, which took about 4 months, and so far the team has processed 265,476 airdrop claims.
Burkey concludes, "I think the best airdrops are the ones that users don't expect, however, I don't think we can go back to that simplicity and have to get into points campaigns and witch wars, which are like a tacit agreement between the protocol and the 'new user' that airdrop farming is acceptable.
The question then becomes, can the protocols be good enough for farmers to farm. i personally support points programs because they reduce the workload of the protocols team (i.e. less time associated with anti-witch work)."
