I don't know how to feel about it.
On the one hand, I know it's unworkable because of game theory: if a whole country or even several (US & the "Western world") halted research, what will stop others? (particularly China)
It's also Ye Olde Luddite sentiment but repackaged for a modern context.
On the other hand, it would be in my own interest if research was indeed forced to slow down. That would give me a bit more time to monetise my skills and experience before the rungs all evaporate from the ladder of social mobility.
