Steve Jobs was an American entrepreneur, business magnate, and inventor who is best known for being the co-founder, chairman, and CEO of Apple Inc. He was widely considered a pioneer of the personal computer revolution of the 1970s and 1980s.
Jobs was born in San Francisco, California in 1955. He was adopted by Paul and Clara Jobs, and grew up in the Silicon Valley area. Jobs attended Reed College in Portland, Oregon, but dropped out after only one semester. He then returned to California and started Apple Computer with Steve Wozniak in 1976.
In the early years of Apple, Jobs was the driving force behind some of the company’s most successful products, including the Apple II, the Macintosh, and the iPod. He was also responsible for the launch of the iTunes Store and the App Store.
Jobs had a tumultuous relationship with Apple over the years, and was fired from the company in 1985. He then founded NeXT Computer and bought the computer graphics division of Lucasfilm, which later became Pixar Animation Studios.
Jobs returned to Apple in 1997 and served as its CEO until 2011, when he resigned due to health issues. He died of pancreatic cancer in October 2011.
