Supporters can identify builders/talents and invest in their career growth through various means, either via direct monetary compensation or via investing in their own tokens. But more than that, supporters can use talent protocol to identify individuals they may want to work with, hire, reach out to etc
This inevitably means that talent protocol potentially provides a database of builders that can be reached out to by potential employers and hiring managers!
Talents:
Talents are the source upon which talent protocol is built. The high achievers, the builders, those who stand tall and create/push amazing things. Talents can create an onchain and verifiable onchain resume that shows their history, current activities, how deeply they currently are involved in the crypto space and their future ambitions.
It provides an avenue for them to stand out of the crowd and show that “indeed” they are individuals who know what their worth is.
Talent protocol enables these two set of individuals to find themselves in the simplest way possible.
Updates to talent protocol
In recent days, talent protocol has introduced a couple of new updates in a bid to improve its support model. The new support model offers three new main features: subscribing to other talents, endorsements, and sponsorship.
Subscribing to other talents allows supporters to receive updates on the career progression of the talents they follow. This feature is particularly useful for users who want to learn from the experiences of others and grow their own careers in the web3 ecosystem.
Endorsement, on the other hand, involves staking real money and vouching for someone’s potential. It is no secret that since 2022, companies ranging from Meta to Amazon and smaller startups have steadily laid off staff, with the layoffs seemingly having no end in sight.
So many theories about the possible causes of these layoffs have been pushed, ranging from supply chain issues due to the Russia-Ukraine war, to rising interest rates in the US and delayed aftereffects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
I however believe it is a combination of all these and one very important phenomenon that we have experienced since 2020 — productivity and technological advancement.
“Technological unemployment”, a slow but deadly menace.
I believe that the advancements in technology and the subsequent increase in productivity play a large role in the layoffs we are currently seeing in the industry.
Take, for example, Amazon, despite being a top 5 company worldwide, they are about to lay off another round of employees, bringing the total number of employees laid off to around 27,000 employees.
A story that however flew under the radar about amazon was their launching of a new mobile autonomous robot called “proteus”.
Amazon has also been heavily pushing into automation in the last decade. The jobs these robots can possibly do would have been handled by an employee, who has now unfortunately has lost a job to tech.
This story isn’t unique. In the 1970s and 1980s, trading floors on Wall Street were bustling with human operators who were making calls and managing trading activities. As technology advanced during that time, an increasing number of these tasks were automated. Today, powerful computers with ultra-low latency handle these operations, executing trades in fractions of a second to ensure profits are made on Wall Street.
What this all means is that fewer human employees would be required to perform work over time, from trading, to software engineering, to design, etc.
The advent of AI in 2023 may perhaps be the largest wake-up call that humans need to look at and find ways to adapt to technology, combining it in such a way that your job as a person is protected for as long as possible.
The new way to work, prioritizing talent, DAOs, freelance.
The article from this point on is my opinion on how I think the future of work will pan out.
I believe as tech continues to grow and take over more jobs, communities will form around verifiable talent, skills and those who can “actually do the work”. Being employed in the tech space will become more and more about what specific thing you can help a company achieve and getting hired for that duration, before moving on to something else.
I believe freelancing would rise, but more than that, communities that have already vetted the skills of workers will be more utilized.
Take an example, a company like meta wants to hire a designer for a job in 2045. Instead of randomly selecting a designer as a freelancer, they go to a verified community(say RnDAO for example) that has loads of designers and they select from there because the skills of the designer have already been vetted beforehand by the community leads.
While I have no idea if this will ever actually happen, I can already see some form of it play out with the emergence of DAOs like developer_dao and designer_dao among others. These are places where designers and devs can throw their hats in and get hired for work as long as they are hardworking and know their tools very well.

I recently stumbled upon a platform that allows users who have skills to create a profile, show off their works and be known as a talent on the platform basically.
The platform called talent protocol claims to be creating a system that helps talented individuals gain more exposure and support. They do this with web3 profiles that can be verified, making it easier for people to trust them. The platform also allows others to support these talents by investing in them. This makes career growth feel like a team effort instead of a solo journey.

At the end
Perhaps we as humans can do nothing to stop the inevitable rise of automation and tech in taking our jobs, but we can extend the time that it occurs by being vigilant, more willing to use tools and understanding the current work environment that we find ourselves in.
This all could also be averted if we have a future that supports universal basic income (UBI).
