On Monday, I attended an early screening of the first episode of the final season of Picard. I, as so many did, grew up watching the crew of the Enterprise NCC-1701-D; The utopian 24th century had me hooked the second my mom introduced me to the show. Reuniting with more of these characters is something I'd always hoped for but feared would never come, especially with the success of the Kelvin-verse and all the new Paramount+ series (and the failure of Nemesis).
After the episode, there was a talkback with some of the cast and Jonathan Frakes mentioned that Gene Roddenberry did not want to show conflict between the Captain and his first officer in TNG. I love how this universe has evolved with the times but having less conflict in the series really did make it so unique at the time. Yes, some episodes were better than others but as a whole, I think The Next Generation really stands with the test of time.
The first episode is wonderful and I can't wait to watch the rest of the series.
