Google DeepMind's AI Model "Genie" Can Generate Super Mario-Style Platformers

Google DeepMind is developing an AI model called Genie that can create video game levels from text descriptions, sketches, or photos. Genie is capable of generating side-scrolling platformers similar to Super Mario Bros., although currently limited to one frame per second. The model was trained on over 30,000 hours of internet platform game videos, learning to create games based on these videos and even representing specific actions like jumping or moving left.
While still a research project, the developers are optimistic about accelerating the model for potential use as a game development tool. Additionally, Genie is seen as a way to create virtual environments for training artificial intelligence, allowing AI bots to learn new skills in a safe setting before being deployed in real-world situations.
