Poor kid was probably psychotic and got stress infused from news outlets chanting for “the battle for democracy” “democracy is on the ballot” ext. If anyone comes away from a mentally ill kid shooting a president and concludes all mentally ill shouldn’t be allowed to own guns you’re just flat out wrong. Using meta analysises you can calculate the per capita rate of gun violence by mentally ill vs reg population. If you do this you’ll get somewhere between a 3-4.5x chance in favor of mentally ill people. Meaning regular people commit gun violence at 3-4x the rate of mentally ill. Now the counter argument is that red flag laws help prevent access to guns for gun violent crimes. So, to account for this you can look at the numbers for gun crimes committed by both populations by illegal guns… in which case the numbers are worse 5x . For individual’s experiencing psychosis, it’s a lot higher 1.25x, but still better then the normal population. At least I’m the US. Fun fact of the day. People who argue that mentally ill people shouldn’t own guns because they’re a “danger to society” are actually more dangerous themselves. Getting ahead of tomorrow’s topic.
