@davidev.lens and I have the same argument every week where I state “Lens is for creators!”, and he says back louder “Lens is for developers!”
Of course, Lens is for creators AND developers. The potential of the protocol is unlocked when both work together to build and use incredible products and experiences.
Building social products should be as fun as it is to use them. Deciding what to build can be a daunting task, though. I’m no dev, but I have had the opportunity to speak with 200+ projects and 300+ creators in the web3 social space and am a creator on Lens myself.
If you’re a developer seeking some inspiration, here’s some food for thought and some ideas to consider building.
Creators on Lens are not a monolith. I think of creators as 3 distinct categories each tied to a specific feature on Lens:
Creators - publish content
Curators - mirror content
Collectors - collect content
When creators, curators, and collectors follow and engage with each other, they form a Community
As a developer, ask yourself how you can build to serve each of these “4C’s”. Creators, curators, collectors, and communities.
Here are some ideas I know I would love to see built to serve for creators, curators, and collectors:
Creators - Analytics tools to understand your lens social graph to answer questions like:
Curators - Attribution tools for content you curate so you can showcase your impact on creators
Collectors - A place/way to showcase and organize your collected content
These are just some thought starters. Come find me at the Lens booth at #ETHSanFrancisco2022 if you would like to discuss!
