Polhymnia

There was a desolation in this riff that I wanted to remain untainted but needed to ensure that it wasn’t too vacuous. In the distance we hear the train which is our only rhythm built from a sample and undertone with a Moog analog synth. This ends up being one of the few songs that I multi-track guitars because the fingering of each take becomes a chorus of voices drifting in rhythm almost like time running over each other in a loop. This riff has always been here.

Davud Van Kovering, key designer of the Moog, spoke at my church. He brought a two-fisted hand bell that played 8 different notes total, depending on 8 possible (4 directions per hand) orthogonal directional swings. His invented bell replaced an entire team of bell players.
