FTX and its creditors have filed an application with the Delaware bankruptcy court to approve the sale of Grayscale and Bitwise trust assets worth approximately $744 million through an investment advisor. According to court documents filed last Friday, this move is aimed at preparing for the upcoming monetary distribution to creditors and allowing FTX to quickly sell these trust assets at the appropriate time. In addition, by establishing a pricing committee, all stakeholders will have representation to alleviate the cost and delay of selling each asset separately.
The "trust assets" involved include five Grayscale trusts with a total estimated value of approximately $691 million, and a trust managed by Bitwise worth $53 million based on the market value on October 25, 2023. These trusts allow investors to gain exposure to digital assets without directly owning them. The documents state that creditors believe that actively reducing the risk of price fluctuations will maximize the value of the trust assets, thereby maximizing the return to creditors and promoting the fair distribution of funds in the debtor's restructuring plan.
