143 . Cosenza Custodita

Ink and open museum

11/05/2017, Cosenza, Italy 🇮🇹

During those days I was part of a team that surveyed Cosenza's open-air museum MAB (Museo all'Aperto Bilotti). This museum, which is actually a pedestrian walkway, has large sculptures by famous artists, such as Modigliani, Chirico or Dalí.

Our work consisted of surveying and then reconstructing some of these sculptures using photogrammetry and laser scanning. The results were included in a mobile application that interacted with the sculptures through augmented reality. Here are some of the 3D models:

"The Archaeologists" by G. di Chirico skfb.ly/6rDF6 , "The Wolf of Sila" by M. Rotella skfb.ly/6r7YF , "Caryatid Head" by A. Modigliani skfb.ly/6rsGR . Today's doodles were made while I was talking to S. and MA. one evening during that trip.

That evening we enjoyed a beer in a bar in the old town of Cosenza. The experience of working on such a survey taught me many things, such as not to expose a handheld laser scanner to direct sunlight or to deal with the consequences and the fury of S.

But tell me dear reader,

Did you know that Dalí or Modigliani had made such a big sculptures?

Did you know that several attempts have been made to steal the spear from Dalí's sculpture?

Buenas noches 🍹
