How a Well-Known Crypto Figure Was Hacked: Ninja Squad Umut’s $60,000 Loss

The Story:

Ninja Squad Umut lost $60,000 worth of crypto and NFTs in a Social Engineering attack. An attacker posed as a representative from a crypto news site, offering an interview. Over 2-3 days, they built trust by discussing logistics. The attacker then sent a fake Zoom link, leading Umut to download malware. Once installed, the malware gave the attacker access to Umut's crypto wallet, resulting in the theft.

What to Do:

  1. Verify sources before downloading or clicking on links.
  2. Use antivirus software and run regular scans.
  3. Enable two-factor authentication on all accounts.
  4. Store significant crypto assets in cold wallets.
  5. Stay updated on common scams and phishing tactics.

What Not to Do:

  1. Don’t trust unverified links or downloads.
  2. Don’t share private keys or sensitive info via unsecured platforms.
  3. Don’t rush decisions based on urgency.
  4. Don’t disable security warnings on your device.

I also got rekt in social engineering hack in 2021, lost 90% of my portfolio. I had downloaded a typing tutor for my friend from rapidshare website. The malware took control of my all social accounts and got access to my seed phrase on my pc. From then digital safety vault is a curse.
