The Bridge
A late-night beat for my #lensfrens 🌿💚✨
When I started making my own music many years ago, I wrote primarily for guitar and vocals. I didn’t spend much time producing electronic music, using synthesizers, samplers or creating beats. I was focused mainly on the aspect of live performance.
But during my undergrad in electroacoustic studies, I discovered electronic music production and developed an understanding of what the early innovators had done - including DJs. I became more interested in using synths, trying out new software applications, and every now and then dabbling with some beats. When I write music now, the computer becomes an instrument, and I love the granularity of control it provides. On the other hand, I’m also fascinated by the unexpected outcomes that can arise.
This piece started out as a technical experiment, using two DAWs simultaneously to compose and mix a song (check this post for more info: lenster.xyz/posts/0x019d96-0x077d ). I never know where these experiments might lead - in this case, it started with a drum part, intended to measure the time delay between the two apps. But then I added a bass line, and suddenly a vibe emerged, reminiscent of old school hip hop. So I went along with it, and the result is a track that will likely get your head nodding. 😉
