US Prosecutors Seek to Ban SBF From Signal After Alleged Witness Contact ⚖️
According to a recent letter addressed to U.S. District Court Judge Lewis Kaplan, Federal prosecutors are seeking to modify FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried’s (SBF) bail conditions to include a ban on access to encrypted messaging services along with a bar on communications with current and former employees of FTX and Alameda Research.
The prosecutors contend that SBF is trying to influence witnesses over Signal and email communications. Specifically, they point to an alleged message sent on Jan. 15 by SBF to Ryne Miller (Witness-1), the current General Counsel of FTX US, which expressed SBF’s inclination to “reconnect” and have a mutually “constructive relationship” with Miller.
The letter expresses the prosecutors’ concerns stating,
"This is particularly concerning given that the defendant is aware that Witness-1 has information that would tend to inculpate the defendant. The appeal for a 'constructive relationship' likewise implies that Witness-1 should align with the defendant. This is particularly concerning given that the defendant is aware that Witness-1 has information that would tend to inculpate the defendant."
