Chile boasts an impressive 1.800+ Glaciers that cover almost 3% of its landmass. For obvious reasons, they are quite the attraction, if accessible.

It took almost two hours from our Apartment to the headwaters of the Rio Exploradores, and then another two hours with a boat to get to the famous Glacier San Rafael. It’s quite a sight to behold standing in front of its 2km wide face while chunks of ice calve from it.

As is the case with many glaciers in Chile, a sign or in our case a tour guide, will show show you exactly where there glacier used to be 10, 20, 30 and more years ago. You can’t help but wonder whether there will be much left to see in a probably not so distant future.
