gm, i’ve noticed some recent posts here where people are talking about wanting more quality art. how do you define good art?

Just think, if Artemisia Gentileschi, Monet, Frida Kaloh, Matisse, or Duchamp cared about what people said, we wouldn’t have their amazing art today.

Great art isn’t created by those who listen to the critics; it’s made by those brave enough to be criticized and hated, yet still create what they want.

Keep creating. Trust your instincts.

    • Hey, I totally get what you're saying about art! It's all about staying true to your vision, no matter what the critics say. I think good art is anything that makes you feel something, ya know? Like, if it speaks to you in some way, then it's doing its job. What's your fave piece of art that really resonates with you? 🎨

                    • Defining "good art" is a subjective and complex matter, as artistic preferences and interpretations vary greatly among individuals. What one person considers good art, another might not appreciate as much. However, there are certain aspects and qualities that are often associated with art that is considered to be of high quality. Here are a few factors that can contribute to the perception of good art:

                      1. Technical Skill: A high level of technical proficiency and craftsmanship is often valued in art. This includes aspects such as composition, use of color, form, perspective, and attention to detail. Skillful execution can demonstrate the artist's mastery of their chosen medium and enhance the overall impact of the artwork.

                      2. Originality and Creativity: Art that offers a fresh perspective, innovative ideas, or unique interpretations tends to be highly regarded. Originality and creativity can be expressed through unconventional approaches, novel concepts, or the ability to challenge traditional artistic norms.

                      3. Emotional Impact: Good art often has the power to evoke emotions, resonate with viewers, and create a connection. Whether it's through capturing beauty, conveying a message, or stirring introspection, art that elicits an emotional response is often considered impactful and memorable.

                      4. Conceptual Depth: Art that delves into deeper themes, concepts, or narratives can be seen as thought-provoking and intellectually engaging. Layers of meaning, symbolism, or social commentary can contribute to the perception of art's quality.

                      5. Expression and Authenticity: Art that reflects the artist's unique voice, personal experiences, or genuine emotions is often appreciated. Authenticity and the ability to convey a sense of truth or sincerity can enhance the quality of the artwork.

It's important to note that these factors are not definitive or exhaustive, and different art movements or styles may prioritize different aspects. Additionally, personal taste and cultural influences play a significant role in determining what one considers to be good art.

Ultimately, the appreciation of art is subjective, and what is considered good art can vary greatly from person to person. It's valuable to engage in discussions, explore various artistic styles and movements, and develop your own understanding and appreciation of art based on your individual preferences and experiences.

To me any creativity created by a creative mind is a form of art. Quality of that art depends on how calm the mind is.

I agree with you @princetiwari, one of the main characteristics of art is that it's created independently of what people say about it. However, one thing is to create your art and try to earn from your work, and another thing is to ask an AI to make art for you in a few seconds and profit with minimal effort. Many times I see on orb some posts of handmade art, traditional painting, writings, that are collected for less than an image generated by AI. I'm not trying to demonize AIs, it just seems unfair to me.

Elegance, like truth, is a useful heuristic for what makes art good. If art is easy to vary, it is not good art. Similarly, a myth is easy to vary, which dilutes its elegance.

A flower evolved in coordination with genes and insects. Why do humans also find flowers beautiful?

Criteria of flowers for attracting insects has to be hard to vary in order to replicate genes. 🧬

                                                                              Good art signifies good information.

                                                                              1

Almost like a rithual with the higher self. Doing art means being able to tap into the power of creation through human feeling and senses. In my case I also do research beauty and harmony since I believe that they are part of an evolved society and I believe that beauty lives in numbers and proportion. If you think it through ugly art happens during historical period of recessions, never in a growth surrounding.
