Pussy Riot Launches Proof of Protest NFT Collection on Lens Protocol to Protest New Ruling on Roe v. Wade

July 7 - Pussy Riot, the Russian feminist protest and conceptual performance art collective, announced today the launch of Proof of Protest NFT Collection on the Lens Protocol, an open-source tech stack for building decentralized social applications. Lens allows creators to easily mint NFTs that can be collected directly on apps built on Lens, including Lenster, the new decentralized microblogging and social networking service powered by Lens.

The collection titled Proof of Protest (done by Pussy Riot in a collaboration with Ksti Hu) will provide anyone a way to support female reproductive rights and showcase opposition and protest against the June 24 Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) ruling that overturned the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade case, which guaranteed federal constitutional protection of abortion rights. This collection debuts as an extension of a sequence of notable Pussy Riot statement pieces, which include "Panic Attack", "Virgin Mary, Please Become a Feminist", ACAB, "Drink My Blood" and "Riot Girls".

The Proof of Protest NFT drop will include open, limited, and special editions. The open edition will launch on July 7 at 2pm EST and will last 24 hours.

All funds from the Proof of Protest drop will support reproductive rights. The new ETH wallet LegalAbortion.eth, set up by UnicornDAO and Endaoment, will serve as the donation hub and all proceeds will be distributed across seven organizations: Center for Reproductive Rights, Fund Texas Choice, Sister Song, NARAL Pro-Choice America, Fos Feminista, Planned Parenthood, and URGE.

Co-founded by Pussy Riot’s Nadya Tolokonnikova and her network of Crypto OGs, artists, builders and allies, UnicornDAO is redistributing wealth and creating visibility to promote equality for women. The protest group follows an ideaology of civil society, feminism and support towards LGBTQ+ issues.

“We live in a world where almost everything is for sale. And now you can get it at discount when you buy more than 1 Raw Extra Virgin bottle of Feminism.

Your voice is yours, even though your womb is not (in America). No government, no corporation can take that away from you.

The bottle of feminism that you will get today will stay with you on blockchain and will become a part of your digital identity. Years from now, no one will be able to tell you that you did nothing when womb-owners' rights were taken away from them. Own your Proof Of Protest (POP).

Burn the patriarchy. Rage at the systems of oppression that tell you they own your body. If you don't have a womb, rage for the rights of your mother, I bet you have one.“ - Nadya Tolokonnikova, Pussy Riot

The Pussy Riot NFTs are being minted as publications on Lens. These posts become NFTs once they are collected. In just a few clicks, Pussy Riot was able to set up precise conditions for this drop - including price, number of editions, and timeframe to collect. The collections are available to be collected directly on Lenster, the new decentralized and censorship resistant microblogging and social networking service powered by Lens protocol, or any other app on Lens that integrates the Collect module. Currently live on the Polygon Mainet, Lenster ensures that creators are able to express their views safely without the risk of being suspended or shadow banned.

“Lens Protocol gives creators a way to expand their support for causes and go directly to their audiences without an intermediary,” said Stani Kulechov, CEO of Aave Companies, the development team behind Lens Protocol. “By allowing activists like Pussy Riot to go direct-to-audiences with a technology that makes NFT minting as simple as posting or liking a post, Lens is empowering a new generation of humanitarians with a way to make an immediate global impact without fear of censorship.”

Holders of Pussy Riot’s Proof of Protest Special and Limited edition NFTs will be eligible to mint one Lens profile per wallet.
