So it’s like clubs but onchain? 👀
True, good point about collects!
Ofc 🫡
I appreciate respectful debates. Challenging ideas is what makes them better.
But we can always agree that Vinyls are awesome 😎
I don't think it's a new approach. Tiktok has already something similar. I get the idea of stickers, but it is not sustainable for all creators imo and it will make Lens adaption more confusing.
The promise of Lens was for creators to make money with their content and stickers were never part of my content plan.
I understand that some of you made some money with stickers, but I don't know where people get the audacity to start bashing existing and successful social media platforms. We copy their ideas, implement them poorly, then we hate on them and portray them as the pure evil?
As already said, I have stopped using orb after the update and mainly use Hey now, where I don't see any stickers.
Yes I understand the point.
The reason I react a bit cynical to such statements is the following:
Web2 social media & platforms ofc do take a cut from the revenue, but they also offer something in exchange:
- A huge user base
- Sophisticated tools for advertising and analyzing your content
- mechanisms that enable virality
- Nice display and discoverability of your content.
So imo it is more of an give and take. But on Lens everybody is acting like those platforms are only exploiting creators. Ofc not everyone can make it there, but everyone has the chance.
And no hate, but Lens is not nearly there. I am a video creator, when I want to watch the videos that I created one year ago on Lens, they won't even play!!!
On Lens revenue tends to come in waves if at all. Because a new coin (like Bonsai back then) has launched or a new feature like stickers is there.
So we shouldn't be bashing on Web2 platform and claiming that we are the revolution, when we haven't even got the basics done.
I absolutely agree.
There is a reason why big platforms are offering ad-based revenue to creators.
I think the idea of collecting is charming but has failed unfortunately.
Average users are not willing to pay for content and might not even be able to afford it.
Average users want to be entertained and they pay by watching sponsored content or ads.
