I think it’s very country and culture dependent. In the UK for example it’s been a big cultural thing to own your home and that’s seen as a goal for many people but in many European countries, levels of home ownership are much lower and there’s much less desire to own. I think too few people think about the financial implications and focus too much on the cultural norms. It’s probably changing though given home ownership out of reach for many younger generations so maybe we see a shift?
