A Lens profile is more than just a social media account, it's a sovereign identity.

Blockchain technology enables users to own their access to a shared network. The only comparable alternative is hosting a website. The problem with websites is they are siloed, there is no decentralized system to share identities and content between sites.

Onchain social networks are the next evolution of websites: self-ownership + composability.

Lens applications will look like typical websites, with the powerful underlying feature of reading, writing, and owning interactions on a public network.

There are certainly challenges to building this type of network such as scalability and user experience, but the Lens community has made tremendous strides on both of these fronts already and is just getting started, onward and upward.
