Read on and discover the most common myths about Lens and what's really happening on this side of decentralized social.
𝟣. 𝒴𝑜𝓊 𝓃𝑒𝑒𝒹 𝓉𝑜 𝓈𝒾𝑔𝓃 𝓂𝑒𝓈𝓈𝒶𝑔𝑒𝓈 𝓌𝒾𝓉𝒽 𝒶𝓃 𝐸𝒪𝒜 𝓌𝒶𝓁𝓁𝑒𝓉 𝒾𝓃 𝑜𝓇𝒹𝑒𝓇 𝓉𝑜 𝓅𝑜𝓈𝓉.
Not true! You don't need any kind of signature to post. You only need to sign to log in, and sometimes (depending on the client), to collect.
𝟤. 𝑀𝓎 𝓅𝑜𝓈𝓉𝓈 𝒶𝓇𝑒 𝑜𝓃𝒸𝒽𝒶𝒾𝓃, 𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝓉𝒽𝑒𝓇𝑒𝒻𝑜𝓇𝑒 𝒾𝓂𝓂𝓊𝓉𝒶𝒷𝓁𝑒
Nope. Your profile and your social graph are onchain. Your publications are stored in a separate metadata object. Apps choose where to store the metadata.
𝟥. 𝐿𝑒𝓃𝓈 𝒶𝓁𝓇𝑒𝒶𝒹𝓎 𝒽𝒶𝓈 𝒷𝒾𝑔 𝒶𝒸𝒸𝑜𝓊𝓃𝓉𝓈 𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝒾𝓈 𝒷𝑒𝒸𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝑜𝓈𝓈𝒾𝒻𝒾𝑒𝒹
TL;DR: WE ARE SO EARLY! New accounts posting quality content go a very long way in a short time. The more quality content you post, the faster you grow.
𝟦. 𝐼𝓉'𝓈 𝒽𝒶𝓇𝒹 𝓉𝑜 𝒷𝓇𝑒𝒶𝓀 𝓉𝒽𝓇𝑜𝓊𝑔𝒽 𝒶𝓈 𝒶 𝓃𝑒𝓌 𝓊𝓈𝑒𝓇
Breaking through is so easy: join @orb clubs, follow recommended people on each Lens app, comment thoughtfully, post with substance. We have a very friendly and inclusive community.
𝟧. 𝐿𝑒𝓃𝓈 𝒹𝑜𝑒𝓈𝓃'𝓉 𝓈𝓊𝓅𝓅𝑜𝓇𝓉 𝐹𝓇𝒶𝓂𝑒𝓈
Also, not true. Open Frames, the standard developed by
@davidf is live on Lens (@phaver and @hey clients). Devs can now port their frames seamlessly!
𝟨. 𝒯𝒽𝑒𝓇𝑒 𝒶𝓇𝑒 𝓃𝑜 𝒸𝓇𝓎𝓅𝓉𝑜 𝓃𝒶𝓉𝒾𝓋𝑒𝓈 𝑜𝓃 𝐿𝑒𝓃𝓈
Not true. Crypto folks were the earliest adopters. @0xppl, the client for crypto-natives, just integrated Lens. But what's most important: we cast a wider net. If as a crypto-native your Lens feed feels like terra incognita: we're doing something right because we're breaking out of the echo chamber
𝟩. 𝐿𝑒𝓃𝓈 𝒽𝒶𝓈 𝓉𝑜𝑜 𝓂𝒶𝓃𝓎 𝒸𝓁𝒾𝑒𝓃𝓉𝓈, 𝒾𝓉'𝓈 𝓉𝑜𝑜 𝒻𝓇𝒶𝑔𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉𝑒𝒹
True decentralization involves client diversity, and while it does introduce some fragmentation, this a tradeoff Lens is willing to take. Every app competes on the same market share and its up to the builders to create novel experiences for any audience they like.
8. 𝐿𝑒𝓃𝓈 𝓃𝑒𝑒𝒹𝓈 𝓉𝑜 𝒾𝓂𝓅𝓇𝑜𝓋𝑒 𝒾𝓉𝓈 𝓊𝓈𝑒𝓇 𝑒𝓍𝓅𝑒𝓇𝒾𝑒𝓃𝒸𝑒
Hate to break this to you, but Lens is a protocol, and all clients are independent. If you need a particular feature, this is up to the Lens apps to implement them. And they are super open to your feedback!
9. 𝒴𝑜𝓊 𝓃𝑒𝑒𝒹 𝓉𝑜 𝓅𝒶𝓎 𝒻𝑜𝓇 𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓇𝓎 𝓅𝑜𝓈𝓉/𝒸𝑜𝓁𝓁𝑒𝒸𝓉
Absolutely not! Most actions don't require signatures, and most transactions are subsidized. Try @orb, @hey, or @phaver if you don't believe us. A free mint is truly FREE.
10. 𝒜𝓁𝓁 𝒸𝑜𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓃𝓉 𝑜𝓃 𝐿𝑒𝓃𝓈 𝒾𝓈 𝓈𝒽𝒶𝓇𝑒𝒹 𝒶𝒸𝓇𝑜𝓈𝓈 𝒶𝓁𝓁 𝒶𝓅𝓅𝓈
Again, it's the developers' choice! You can leverage existing content, yet nothing stops you from filtering or just showing your app's own content. Look at @t2world for example!
11. 𝐼𝒻 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝒾𝓃𝓉𝑒𝑔𝓇𝒶𝓉𝑒 𝐿𝑒𝓃𝓈, 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝓃𝑒𝑒𝒹 𝓉𝑜 𝓊𝓈𝑒 𝒶𝓁𝓁 𝓉𝒽𝑒𝒾𝓇 𝒸𝑜𝓂𝓅𝑜𝓃𝑒𝓃𝓉𝓈
The future is modular, and so is Lens. You can implement all the components, or just Lens Profiles. Developers' choice, always.
12. 𝒴𝑜𝓊 𝒸𝒶𝓃'𝓉 𝓈𝒾𝑔𝓃 𝓊𝓅 𝓉𝑜 𝐿𝑒𝓃𝓈 𝓋𝒾𝒶 𝐸𝒩𝒮
One more time for the people in the back: developers' choice! The Lens API integrated ENS early on. If you want your ENS name to show as Lens profile, just ask your client of choice!
13. 𝐿𝑒𝓃𝓈 𝒾𝓈 𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓇𝑒𝓃𝑔𝒾𝓃𝑒𝑒𝓇𝑒𝒹
Our favorite myth. The Lens engineering team is overqualified, but that's about as "over" as it gets. See for yourself: <www.lens.xyz/docs>
