Are you a music artist?
Have you ever been told to ‘find your voice’?
Sounds pretentious at first.
After that it still feels difficult to grasp.
But I can tell you now.
Make as many things as you can.
In as many styles as you can.
Especially at the edge of your comfort zone.
Then, suddenly you start to become oriented.
You kind of have to triangulate it.
Finding your coordinates is a revelation.
If you’re not there yet, stick with it.
If you are, congratulations.
Tough, wasn’t it.
Music Artists...
Just because you've set a course for a particular destination don't be afraid to pivot slightly when circumstances change.
The landscape of the music industry is always shifting.
Decide to head north or south and you will eventually meet a pole, doesn't matter how or when you get there.
The purpose is the process.
The music you make is basically your diary.
Would you ask A.I. to write your diary?
Deconstructing my new song so that I can play it live has had me remembering some of my favourite laid back tracks from back in the day.
A Tribe Called Quest’s - Electric Relaxation is one tune that always used to calm me down.
Thought I’d try a little cover/mash-up just for fun! Shouts to Jazz OG Ronnie Foster too whose music inspired Tribe to make what has to be one of their most classic tracks.
Interested to know what other people listen to when they want to wind down. Let me know!
In the meantime my track “Electric” is out now to stream everywhere. Thanks for listening!
