Mazda has announced that it will end production of the Mazda6 for the domestic market in mid-April. The news came in advance, so that potential JDM interested parties could still enter the car into production, until the end of production, it will drive as it has until now. I don't want to be a pessimist, but I would say that this means the end for the 6 as such, it is no longer sold in America and Australia, and Mazda will certainly not want to keep production for a few thousand cars in Europe.
Over 226,000 Mazda Atenza and Mazda6 cars have been sold on the Japanese market in less than 22 years, and some more will be added in the coming quarter, the current generation is now in its twelfth year. It is assumed that the Mazda6 will end up without a successor, at one time a suitable replacement with rear-wheel drive was planned, then it was said that the profitable SUV portfolio was given priority, but last fall there was some hope. Since Mazda is planning a sports coupe, we could expect a RWD sedan as well.
