๐ Decline in Lens Protocol Activity: A Wake-Up Call ๐
Hello, everyone, dear members of Lens Protocol. Today, I want to discuss a topic that concerns us all: the recent decline in activity on Lens.
๐ Observed Data ๐
Over the past few months, I've noticed some concerning trends:
๐ Posts have decreased by 21.65%
๐ Comments have dropped by 12.87%
๐ Mirrors have fallen by 28.71%
(Compared to the previous 30 days)
These numbers are alarming for the platform and all of us who contribute to its ecosystem.
โ What's Happening? โ
I don't have all the answers, but I would like to start a conversation about some of the possible reasons behind this decline:
I remember @stani mentioning that social networks are a party, and we need to take care of the participants at the party. Are we getting bored with this party?
๐ฃ Call to Action ๐ฃ
This is a call to the community and the developers to discuss and address these concerns.
We are all here because we believe in the potential and vision of Lens Protocol. To keep this ecosystem alive, it's crucial that we tackle these issues head-on and collectively.
To be honest it's about AIRDROP people are here for AIRDROP that's it first they thought if they will use the platform they will get some benefit as a airdrop but when they realize it's just a waste of time then they start leaving the platform now only those user who have actual interest on innovation are stay here it's my honest feedback to lens and stani.
Also many lens holders were restricted at one point and still are in โlens jailโ so cant do anything really on the protocol

IDK, a lot of people just say that it is the bear market, but social is still social even if we are in crisis. Maybe it just not โfun enoughโ.
As you mention, it is a party, and pretty few people out there rather web3 social than the dopamine drug of web2.
Quality of the content is ok as always. The answer is simple and sad. We need some incentive to leave Twitter. Most people are in crypto for the money. We need something to speculate on. A potential airdrop or some speculative SocialFi mechanism built on #Lens would help a lot in this situation.
Hey Cristian!
Your question piqued my interest, so I decided to dive a bit deeper and create two additional charts:
๐๐ป One similar to yours, but segmented by profiles based on their number of followers.
๐๐ป The same chart but spanning the past 6 months.
What are my takes from it? There is still not enough information to jump to any conclusions at all. When analyzing in a higher timeframe (6 months) we see that the 30d variation is basically irrelevant, and is probably correlated to outside events like the crypto market or even seasonal events.Surprisingly, even in the segmented analysis, it doesn't seem to be directly related to the recent bot purge, as we didn't observe a significant drop in the smaller follower segments.
However, what stands out is that the most active segment, accounting for about 50% of posting and mirroring activity, is the group with follower counts ranging from 20 to 200. This group seems to be the driving force behind the movements we observe on Lens. With this in mind, one of the questions that emerges is: What motivates these profiles to consistently use Lens?
In the context of the social media landscape, this segment isn't comprised of professional content creators but rather consumers or aspiring creators. Do they have sufficient motivation to spend money on Lens, or is there a potential audience they can target to transition into professional creators? These questions tailor to a missing piece in Lens IMO right now: sponsors.
Sponsors inject funds and products into the social media ecosystem. They support creators, who, in turn, introduce consumers to their products and enable the creation of free content.
So, 3 more questions come to mind:
๐๐ป Are our creators prepared to generate leads for sponsors professionally?
๐๐ป Are our consumers ready to become leads?
๐๐ป Is Lens ready to support this scale?
The more I try to answer any of those questions, the more questions come to my mind ๐
So, I'll continue charting and analyzing to fuel this discussion.
I did some Lens user segment analysis on my latest #LensForestDiaries post, if you find it interesting:

Like many have mentioned here, I believe the reduction in bots, and low quality users play a huge role in the analysis.
I frankly think this is a natural progression as inevitably the community and content quality increases as many still here arenโt in it for a โairdropโ.
Once we get more apps and public access opens up people will be overtaken by the endless possibilities that they wonโt look to ever leave, as a matter of fact I think you wonโt be able to escape Lens itโll be embedded everywhere.
Lens has the ability to weather any crypto cycle.

I believe there are two primary reasons for this situation. Firstly, Lens took action to block numerous accounts a few months ago. Secondly, a considerable number of users were solely engaged on Lens for the purpose of accumulating Lens tokens. Having grown weary of this pursuit, they have likely shifted their focus to other projects or platforms.
What I see is that few projects makes confusion between "owning big money nfts" and "good quality content creator". Confusing intelligence with richness. Like this the only possible trend is down, in the abyss of fullness!
1- phaver announce l3,l4 free lens handle which is demotivate for the lens future with that (more people = decrease of lens profile price )
2- unnecessary changing of names like lenster, lenstube
3. More of the people join for the airdrop but their is no announcement
this is like anthropology related
why do people post in first place? reasons can be infinite but most common itโs to express ourselves
why do we need to express ourselves? because thatโs how we build an identity
we need people that wants to explore and build that identity
the same way people posting videos on the first youtube was
im not a content creator by any means but i like to post more just because for what the protocol represents:
to recap: this protocol itโs OUR protocol, i feel like i belong to a bigger purpose, am in a place where i can explore and build my identity having the ownership of my content, thatโs awesome!
we need to allow everyone to create a handle, the bots problem comes because almost everyone in here talks about crypto, ask twitter crochet if they have bots problems.
not only to allow people to get their handles (that will end the handleโs secondary business) but to talk with our friends and favorite content creators to tell them to come and post here, where the content is theirs, not from a company or a multibillionare.
My guess is that there's too much content oriented towards crypto. Help spread the word about diverse creators and assist them in getting noticed. That way, a bear market won't negatively impact social media, as the majority of the content is unrelated to the crypto market.
less bots and concrete community forming but also numbers less relevant than the content quality itself
