I've only used mastodon for a week. My account just got suspended for:
"Being a capitalist"
I am not sure what that means. But I guess I can fix it by sending some moneros to the server owner?
The Fediverse is not very welcoming. Guess/hope Lens won't ban me for anything :')
Yes, it's unfortunate that this is the best "mainstream" alternative for people trying to escape twitter. The UX is awful.
really wish mastodon was better. But this ^ is how it goes. Instances are intentionally ideologically aligned which isn't bad itself, but they end up blocking/suspending anyone who doesn't belong.
And then account migration is a pain, it's possible but is essentially just pointing an old account to a new one, which might not work if you're suspended.
Lens is the way 🌱🌱
😂 seriously?
the server owner has either an exceptional sense of humour or a very bad default message setup.
The mastodon groups I saw were filled with all kinds of abusive stuff. Imo its not a serious competitor for the "public square" that is/was twitter.
Once the novelty of people moving off twitter to mastodon wears off, its gonna go back to the fringe element status it had
I had to collect this but good example the challenges with the server/federated model. I think what works better is actually shared state of data availability. I see challenges more in when hosts are shutting down servers if they don’t want to continue and a community is lost. Would like to hear @vitalik.lens thoughts
Mastodon is the worst of both world… censorship is delegated to random people ;)
Oh wow, the irony levels in this ban are through the roof.
At the same time, this is goes a long way on why we need decentralized, carefully incentivized, community-based content moderation.
