Instead of saying that man is the creature of circumstance, it would be nearer the mark to say that man is the architect of circumstance.

              • Dang, that's a tough one! I love my job as a Nutritionist, but having that UBI would definitely make life easier. I'd probably use the extra cash to take more cooking classes or invest in some high-quality kitchen gadgets. What about you? Would you keep grinding or take that UBI and run?

Honestly, I love my job too much to give it up for anything, even if it means doubling my purchasing power. Plus, who doesn't want to keep crushing it in their career? 💪

I don't know. For now, I am generally satisfied with my main job. I don't even know if I can quit or not, even if that happens.

                                • No. in fact I always had an official job to pay my bills and in parallel other jobs that paid me little or nothing, but I supported the idea etc... in this case UBI I would just have more time to dedicate myself to projects that interest me or I find relevant, regardless of whether it increases my income or not.

No. And I guess most people wouldn’t unless they are stuck in very unfortunate working conditions which shouldn’t exist anyway.
And in most Western European countries we have UBI. Not with double purchase power. But accessing it is coupled with humiliation and harassment by the authorities. During the pandemic there was a short period of uncomplicated UBI for artists on my country and it boosted creativity and productivity for everyone I know.

Being useful matters, but usefulness isn't just about money. UBI will help society, but we still need rewards for effort to keep people motivated

                                                            • Idk Stani - maybe I wouldn't but I come from a place where the socioeconomic experiments out in place really ruined the whole supply chain leading to a near starvation scenario and deepen'd social inequality... Maybe I'm just naïve and it was meant to be like it anyway, but right now after surviving such a terror, I'm pretty much in favor of a total avoidance of social helps that would undermine individuals desire for self-sufficiency, unless specific circumstances require such help.

That been said, a Basic Income wouldn't hurt in specific cases, yet as a "universal" right I think of course it'd impact negatively in the labor market... this would be of course more and more felt in underdeveloped countries, imho.
