I've been thinking more about the onboarding profile creation fee. I think using 8 Matic or card payment has done a great job of keeping most of the spam away. I've also seen that Hey and Tape offer onboarding with slightly lower costs (5 Matic, etc.) based on the credits idea discussed in LIP-5.

It would be great if all the apps charged the same 8 Matic, and the apps could keep part of the fee, let's say 4 Matic, to monetize from the onboarding.

What are everyone's thoughts on this?

  • It was actually a brilliant idea

I need to think about this for a bit. Generally I feel the idea to share protocol revenue with the front-ends that help onboard is a great thing. On the otherside I also feel there will be front-ends that want to cover the onboarding fees themselves in order to attract new users? If we are truly permissionless then I guess this is more a codex that you as a front-end agree too, but it feels more like preferred practice.

I am not too worried to be honest if this is a bit a mess for now. If your app offers the cheapest onboarding but you can't keep your users, then its a product design challenge. I guess we have to see this play out.

          • Definitely, it would go a long way cubbing the menise of sybils. But, there's more work on top of that 🤔

Availability of paying in crypto is great. For some people there is no opportunity to pay by card.

Fees should be the same for everyone. I would also like to see stablecoin support like USDC, USDT, DAI and GHO for payment and would say they could keep 75% of it. 25% to the treasury for future incentives.

Makes sense, wouldn't feel good for the users who paid 8 and were earlier. In general I think not imposing too many limitations on how apps behave is good, but this particular case makes sense to me personally

I think protocol revenue sharing is critical, and using a single price is also critical; otherwise, you promote this culture of every single app onboarding undercutting each other and dynamic pricing being everywhere, which does not make sense. If its 8 MATIC on the protocol, it should be 8 MATIC on every app but if they onboard through the app that app should get 50% of the revenue like you are saying above. This would make sense to me and allow apps to earn $$$ from just onboarding but keeping the protocol price static.

                                  • I think everyone's trying to get the market share and more users to their platform .Hey might reduce fee to get more users to have their first lens experience on their platform. Hence the reduction in fees
