What rules you would change in a country?

Let say you would be able to set rules in a network state, what you would change?

I want to hear some serious thoughs on what is the most important changes people would apply

  • Elimination of accredited investor laws that prevent non-millionaires from investing in startups. This creates an unfair advantage, hurts upwards mobility, and hinders growth of startups that working class people would benefit from.

Tbh I think the Nordics have found quite a good model of how to run things.

Big thing I think could be changed is optimism in society.

What I respect the most about the USA is that they really celebrate ambition, whereas in the Nordics the culture is a bit too modest to be bullish on anything.

I think further incentivizing entrepreneurship with different grants, tax benefits and entrepreneurship courses in school would be the play.

Although it's too utopian, I still think eliminating all kinds of inequalities is the most important thing, just like the song in IMAGINE,a beautiful fantasy lol

              • i just wonder why whenever someone mention about changing something, it has to be something outside, changing this changing that, make 1 rule 2 rule a thousand rules for people to follow, obey, compromise, eventually all rules are made to be broken and a few who are smart enough to figure out how to dodge the law are getting richer and more powerful days by days, so what is the point of all this, is it the right thing to do or is it not working but because everyone is doing it so we accept it as the inevitable, or there is another way of changing, which is to look inside not outside, to see clearly who we really are, deeply understand ourselves with absolute honesty, not see ourselves as someone we should be or desire to be, perhaps out of that understanding of ourselves, a radical change starts to happen, and that is the change we seek for generations

                • Idk how it would be done, but there needs to be a way to hold people in power accountable for their actions. As it stands now centralised governments can do whatever the hell they want and no one can stop them, and the result is that the world is just beyond corrupt. We vote people into power to implement the policies that we want, and yet theirs no way to hold them responsible and the result is that they don't have to do what voters want once in power. Once in power, voters become powerless. Its such a broken system.

                  • Rules are made to be broken. Make a rule that are no rules.

I don't think it's about the rules, it is, as Balaji wrote, about the (one) moral commandment.
You need to rally people around shared values, otherwise they won't agree on the rules.

Rules are meant to ensure that societies play fair together, but if the participants of it are on contrasting ends of the spectrum, this is doomed to fail.

#1 is how educational system works. As young we need to learn how to empathize with others, what is right and what is wrong.
If you take the right education from people, you take their biggest potentials.

I would love to have an experiment country which I could lead and have all the real enthusiasts is each of the sectors work because they enjoy working, not for money. I would like to remove the concept of money.
Imagine if there were engineers all working to make the best road car, farmers working to produce only natural food, and all of that is free for everyone. Everyone contributes to society and everyone's contribution is equally important for the functioning of that society. Therefore, everyone has an equal right to access goods.
You could change professions and do whatever drives your motivation and all the people in that country would be happy.
I actually think with a huge number of people this could be achieved. Also I believe there are a lot of people right now that are thinking reasonably and they could function in such a society.

Lower taxes and a tracking system of how effectively they're used. Create more incentives for new businesses. Probably would change some of the age limits for certain things as well.

Second would probably make other idea based on what I think would be kind to the poor mases and not literally myself

Lastly would hold a meeting every month where everyone from my country ( randomly picked) will tell me how they would run the country better.

Will just try to make everyone choose what they think is good and then ask myself "why".

                                      separation of state and money

localised decision making (i.e. neighbourhood DAOs)

if need be: voucher system for all public services to foster free competition - the more localised the sharing of resources & decision making, the better

                                        2. Optional state funded healthcare (optionally paid in taxes).
                                        3. State funded food banks

Ooof, good question. Kick it off!

I think there are rules at the local level I’d change. I know we have a local problem with developers cramming housing into areas that are over crowded. Drives up existing prices and makes the market and livability difficult.

                                            • Equal access to education: Implementing policies that ensure every individual has equal access to quality education can help bridge socioeconomic gaps and create a more equitable society. This could include investing in education infrastructure, providing scholarships or financial assistance, and promoting inclusive educational practices.
