Just anecdotal, but I personally received a relatively small amount of unemployment during the pandemic after getting laid off. It only amounted to about nullk per month after the added $600 ended.
Having that cushion let me take a step back and really dive into crypto and other things I was intrinsically motivated to do.
That lead me to landing a job in crypto and having my first “real” job in a long time (I was working as a bartender before). I’ve seriously leveled up since the start of COVID. I’m an entirely new person.
Without that cushion I probably never could have made this transition.
I’ve also been a proponent of UBI for a long time and written about it on Quora, so I’ve thought about this a lot and had this answer preloaded!
it is the best solution to handle the large scale displacement of labour due to automation in the coming years.
Remember human wants is insatiable, if UBI should be initiated the price of commodity will skyrocket leaving some category of people not to be able to afford what they could before ☺️
something for nothing never works
free shit line full
produce actaul good services line empty
= inflation and no goods services
I think the stimulus checks at the beginning of the pandemic were a good ‘mini experiment’ for ubi
Oh I could spend so much time on this topic. But I am thinking of it maybe like more as a stipend. So the basics of food and housing are taken care of and then you get a UBI on top. Alternately I like the negative taxation model - you know it @stani.lens ?
The best proof that universal basic income (UBI) could work comes from several real-life experiments and trials that have been conducted in different parts of the world.
i would say even just the anecdotal evidence. all you need to do is consider the difference between people whose life goes off the rails but have family support vs people who don't and the probability someone will overcome and go on to thrive.
Universal Basic Income (UBI) could be designed to reduce poverty, improve income security and boost well-being, but could be expensive and challenging to introduce. Many of its goals could be achieved through changes to the existing social security system and addressing the underlying causes of insecurity in the labour and housing markets.
