Want to write more content during 2023 - I used to write a lot of blog posts but short form content has taken that away from me. Any tips from those who actively write on how to get back in writing?

  • Just write about what you’re passionated about!
For sure you have your niche. Take a dive on it

What do you want to write about? Who will you write it for? If you're stuck, write a letter to a friend to get into it

Start using journaling. Shorthand about your day: Write about the movie you watched or book you read, This is called active journaling. writing without any purpose or meaning

For me, it starts with having a purpose > if I can constantly find a purpose to write it takes the pressure off of sitting down and needing to start from scratch

I really like the screenshot essay format.

Mobile first and intentionally short to finish in 15min. And most importantly forces you to be succinct.

I like having a tiny daily "thing" to create, even if it doesn't get published. My gm☕️s get the camera in my hand and creative juices start flowing. My photo posts get me to reflect and write a tiny caption, which always ends up snowballing into a paragraph or three.

Also over the past 2 weeks I've found ChatGPT to be a really great sounding board. Some days I ask it questions, I poke and prod and we bounce ideas back and forth, and a few times I've found a spark for a post in there. Today, for example, we were talking about empires and identity and it struck me how identity as a theme applied to my photo, and suddenly I was in a flow state writing. Yes I'm aware I'm speaking about AI as if it were a person but...I kinda like that. It feels real 🤣

                    • If I’m working on a long composition, I’ll aim for 30 - 60 seconds of completed music a day. That way by the end of the week I have a small chunk of it finished. It adds up over time. Maybe start with a paragraph a day?
