they did it well, completely, abstracted the tech. that's good for users. and it maybe some curious ones will have a look at web3 now.
on the other hand, they only implemented a feature (ok, I - and probably no one else here - don't know their roadmap). of course, those features will attract some media coverage and some publications will even tell us that web3 is gaining adoption. but in the end it's just a feature. as web3 proponents we should be wary of celebrating it too much. web3 is more than giving users (and I use this term deliberately here; there is no step towards decentralization, ownership,...) some fancy new way to show off an avatar.
as I have mentioned above, abstracting the tech is good. but in this case it's hiding. by hiding the tech, regular users don't even start to think about web3 concepts, realizing that things could be run differently.
I think unlike many other web2 brands that tried - Reddit did it the right way.
Very impressed. We should take advantage of them being on Polygon and allowlist top holders or airdrop to them. wdyt?
I think the most important problem for crypto adoption has always been that crypto is behaving like crypto :) Blockchain ecosystem will really succeed when people don't think or know all the blockchain terms while they use blockchain. Reddit opened an important gate for people's adoption
I think they did a great job with how they bridge the gap between web 2 and web 3 users
