“Lens is for girls” is how we think about product. This came about organically, Lens has many women in leadership positions who have grown up as women on the internet, understanding the pay disparities, being more prone to online and sexual harassment, pressure to conform and body shaming, content judgment, fewer opportunities, and the list goes on.

We think about these issues when we want to build a better social network where people can truly own their content and relationships, control their feeds, and block onchain across an entire network. We won’t stop until we create a better, healthier, and more fun internet.

Too long have social platforms built their entire culture and popularity on the backs of minorities and women, without sharing the value back to them. It’s time to break the chain. ⛓️💥

I’m a 61 yeas old turkish woman. I can’t say that I’m harrassed but I’m one of a kind especially on Web3 social media and I feel like invisible.

    • Creating a product in a way that accommodates women and ensures their safety and fair treatment sounds like a great way to create a generally healhy and thriving environment. Having said that, it still must remain equally fair to every individual no matter their gender or any other trait - that includes men as well. I deeply trust in our ability to get it right.

It’s very important, and one of the main reasons why I stick with lens. We need more women in decision-making positions, more women building, and more women speaking up. This is the fastest and best way to change the world for the better.

The world built by men is falling apart, driven by greed, ego, and stupidity, with wars breaking out every few years. We need women to teach us how to communicate and build close-knit communities. We need to reignite family values, decency, and compassion for strangers.

So I’m with you, ladies. We need change, and we need it as fast as possible.

            • Your point that the Lens' board has lot of women, which will influence the way social networks works to better include minorities, is really interesting!
It really shows that everyone can have an impact!
Keep fighting girls, and become powerful woman ! 💪

              • Paris, I agree with you 100%.

I come from a family of strong women, and I think you and I unfortunately share the same pain.

As Iranians, we understand what happens to a society when the rights of its women are violated. It opens the door to hell. A society without women’s rights diminishes and dies.

However, I would like to bring to your attention that harassment and bullying are not exclusively male phenomena, and I had to learn this the hard way here on Lens.

I’ve been personally targeted for excessive harassment and defamation by certain individuals on this platform to an extent that I even considered seeking legal help. Now, what does my story have to do with your post?

I just want to bring to your attention that certain individuals on this platform are using the umbrella of feminism and the idea that “girls can do whatever they want” to systematically defame, attack, and destroy the reputation of other users in such unfair ways that you can’t even imagine. And when people try to defend themselves, they are labeled as misogynists or worse. I’m sure you can imagine how frustrating this can be for the person in that situation.

I’ve always been a defender of women’s rights, especially given my background. People should be measured by their actions and not by their gender. That is not up for debate.

But please, let’s also make sure that we build a platform where everyone is protected and believed equally, regardless of their gender.

Let’s always listen to both sides and let’s not support actors who use the good intentions you stated in your post as a loophole to ruin the reputation of anyone they wish.

                  • I love that Lens is having lots of amazing girlies building projects, and posting everyday!

Something that’s nice, from a personal experience, is knowing that as a girl i have other girls who will defend me if something happens. Creating a “girls girl” culture is important beyong technology.

having the possibility to block, report on-chain is great! I would still think it would be great to have an option to completely block someone like in web2, meaning that the user won’t get any access to someone’s profile. This is to protect us and make us feel even more safe. Not sure if it’s possible though.

is this part of the narrative to make Lens a welcoming space for women?

Not to bring the heat, but a single tweet 1. Excluded a huge % of active females in the space 2. Left a bitter taste for everyone using both platforms enriching an unnecessary rivalry
