📍Allée De Baobab Morondava, Madagascar 🇲🇬
The alarm clock rang at 3:45. Four hours earlier, I thought I would get up feeling nervous, questioning why I signed up for this. It didn't happen that way. I got up full of energy.
Maybe my body didn't need much sleep due to the excitement of what awaited me. It's still dark. It has to be that way. You have to reach the Baobab Avenue before dawn, and there's at least half an hour of driving from the center of Morondava to get there.
You know when you see something in pictures, and in real life, it's not that impressive. I was afraid of that. It didn't come true. The baobabs are even more beautiful in person. Bigger. More magnificent. The only thing I envisioned differently is the length of the avenue. There's not much walking; it's only 260 meters long. Baobabs are everywhere in the surroundings, but they're densely packed only in a small part of the road. The avenue is a real road; you can drive on it, but cars are usually left at its beginning, in the village. Although this is Madagascar's main tourist attraction, there's no entrance fee. Imagine how someone would monetize this if it were anywhere else in the world...
800 years. Hey, 800 years. That's the average age of these baobabs. They reach a height of over 30 meters, and it takes at least three or four people to hug them.
If you come to the Baobab Avenue in the morning, you'll probably be the only foreigners. You'll enjoy the awakening of the village, people working from early morning, carts raising dust, adding additional mystique to this area, children's chatter.
People here go to bed early and wake up early, as the biological clock says it's best to be awake from sunrise to sunset.
When the sun was well up, the temperature was rising, and hunger was growing, we went to have breakfast in the village. We still have a view of the avenue. Wherever we appear, the whole village gathers. We have rice cakes for breakfast, 10 for less than a euro. They prepare them on the floor in front of us. At this moment, there's nothing sweeter; I don't even think about the hygiene conditions in which they are prepared.
In my head, there's only one thought: life is sometimes so beautiful... And I don't want to leave. But I have to. Just because I know that in a few hours, I'm coming back... #tobecontinued 🙏🏽🌿☀️
