📍Timimoun, Algeria 🇩🇿

Our last evening in Algeria was reserved for a visit to the desert dunes, and at first, it seemed like we'd have a few peaceful hours to enjoy the sunset.

In the distance, we spotted a crowd, but it didn't bother us too much. We saw that they were locals and assumed they'd found the best spot to watch the "end of the day." However, the crowd grew larger, and the noise louder.

People and children, mostly men, started arriving from all directions, while the women waited in the spot that seemed best for watching the sunset. Everyone was singing and dancing, and then, suddenly, silence fell.

The men gathered, and a prayer began. That's when we realized it was a religious event, and when we met our guide afterward, they told us it was a celebration of the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad.

You'll likely notice among the people that many are not Algerians but come from other African countries. Algeria accepts many refugees who are mainly fleeing for economic reasons, and although conditions aren't great here either, they are better than in their home countries.

With this post, I'm concluding my stories from Algeria. In the six days we spent there, we only scratched the surface, so I definitely hope for a return visit. ⏳🐪🇩🇿
