A few hours after I got home from Tokyo, I went to see OPUS!
I have been a big Ryuichi fan since I was a teenager. I had hardly slept on the overnight home, and I am notorious for falling asleep in movies since I'm usually exhausted...
But despite the meditative atmosphere and minimalist vibe of the movie, I barely blinked. I found it a really powerful capture of his career and work, covering the YMO days, his film work, and his solo compositions.
Actually, my favourite Sakamoto song as a teenager was 'Undercooled', which isn't part of the movie. I only recently realized that friend of Galverse, Taku-san, was the DJ on that track. I must have watched it 1,000 times.
The last scene of this movie was particularly strong. An awesome last gift that he left, before he left.
