@albiverse:Great piece, @lens/blakefinucane has been on fire

I think demonizing „traditional“ social media is the wrong way to go. T

What gives the arrogance to think that we can do better than them in this early stage? At least for now.

Those „conglomerates“ haven been in this games for decades and are indeed delivering a lot of value for creators. In fact if they wouldn’t have laid out the blueprint, we wouldn’t be here.

What do we have to offer to an influencer with millions of followers on Instagram who is making a living with their followers?

Do we have more convient onboarding? Better analytics? Better targeting? Bigger audience? More money?

It's crucial to recognize the strengths of traditional platforms while identifying where new solutions can add unique value, rather than dismissing the established systems outright.

    • Agree, still long way to go. A more approachable way is target crypto target audience.

The arrogance sometimes lies with the big traditional media themselves. Many for example cannot afford the cost of a premium handle on X, and the medium don't care. To me, data ownership is key in the eventual decentrslization of content creation. The big ones use your data but still charge you for using them.

True. The entire goddamned human race know the bigger ones. We have much things to learn from them. Decentralization is a decent goal but it means nothing if noone cares about it except for a small niche. We need the provide values for the ordinary users.

Agree, traditional platforms have brought a lot of value to many creators. In a way web3 social platforms are a version of these web2 platforms but in smaller scale, but with harder onboarding, more confusing interface..

The bigger Lens grow the more algorithms will be needed here to manage all the information/users flow. I'm curious what lens wants to be in case of mass adoption, like how will it be different from X or Instagram (apart from the fact that the user's own all their social graph)

I don’t think big creators will have much incentives to move away from legacy platforms. Small to medium creators might

And I guess the demonizing aspect is important to name the shortcomings and overcome them

Those big tech companies have demonized their predecessors - web3 will be disrupted too eventually, just a cycle
